Leave No Trace
“Our aspiration for all children and for every young person is that they should be given the opportunity to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors to society and at work.” Adventure Centre for Education
Caring for the environment plays a big part in the Adventure Centre for Education ethos and all our programmes include some focus on educating people about our impact on our environment and how to reduce this when enjoying the outdoors.
Leave No Trace is an Environmental Outdoor Ethics Programme designed to promote and inspire responsible outdoor recreation through education, research, and partnerships.
As increasing numbers of people seek the beauty and exhilaration of outdoor recreation, our collective mark on the environment and its natural processes increases. Litter, disturbance to vegetation, water pollution, wildlife, livestock and other people are all indicators of the need to develop a national ethical that protects both our natural and our cultural heritage.
Our interaction techniques are designed to minimise the social and environmental impacts to these areas and are incorporated into the Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics Education Programme in seven principles.
The Seven Principles of Leave No Trace
1. Plan Ahead and Prepare
2. Be Considerate of Others
3. Respect Farm Animals and Wildlife
4. Travel and Camp on Durable Ground
5. Leave What You Find
6. Dispose of Waste Properly
7. Minimise the Effects of Fire
Adventure Centre for Education delivers Leave No Trace awareness training through demonstrations, interactive activities and general Leave No Trace Education to schools, groups and individuals.
The principles of Leave No Trace also align with ‘A Curriculum for Excellence’ Purposes of the Curriculum for ages 3-18.
Our relationship with the environment is a key issue facing tomorrow’s citizens and the ‘Leave No Trace’ programme can introduce young people to the environment in a way which develops understanding, appreciation, awe, wonder and respect.
It fosters sensitivity to the environment, helps young people to see themselves in a global context and helps to develop citizens with an awareness of the need for sustainable use of the world’s natural resources.
Adventure Centre for Education is a Leave No Trace Centre for Outdoor Ethics and sustainable recreation practices. Our not for profit organisation teaches children and adults vital skills to minimize their impacts when they are outdoors. Leave No Trace is the most widely accepted outdoor ethics program used today on public lands across the world by all types of outdoor recreationists.
